  10. Toned not Tiny

It’s six-thirty in the morning and I am wide awake, wondering why my body decided to get up this early. I open my computer and pull up Pinterest, and see all of these workout/healthy living pins all over my homepage. I start searching through different boards and come across a few weight loss blogs. And that’s where it all began…

I have been talking about how I want to lose weight for a while now… actually for about a year, and yet I haven’t really done a whole lot to get started.  About seven months after I graduated high school, my best friend and I decided we were going to start working out and establishing healthier eating habits. From February 2009, to June 2010 I lost a total of 60 pounds.  The photo above shows me at my senior prom in May 2008, and me again after my weight loss in the summer of 2010.

Now you might be asking why I am doing this if i’ve already lost all of this weight… well, Fall of 2011 I moved into my first apartment.  From there it was all down hill, I was eating fast food almost every day, I wasn’t buying healthy foods anymore because I had more bills to pay and the cheapest foods always seem like the worst ones for you.  Next thing I know, I am starting my first quarter at Wright State, working 30-40 hours a week and I am not making time to work out.  Things kind of started falling apart.  All of the hard work that I had done to get healthier started to be flushed down the toilet.

So here I am, January 2012 and I’ve gained about 20-25 pounds since I was at my smallest.  I can’t wear my favorite jeans I bought post weight-loss and I just feel gross! My arms and belly are flabby again and when I sit down, I feel like I have a huge pouch on my stomach. My body doesn’t feel as healthy as it used to, and I don’t have as much energy to do as much as I would like to do in a day. I’ve lost the motivation I had to eat better and workout. I spend my time laying on my computer, reading, shopping, or eating.  I make excuse after excuse as to why I shouldn’t go to the gym each day and my body is changing.

This leads me to why I am starting this blog.  This morning when I was on Pinterest, I was looking at a couple different girls’ tumblr pages…

    http://undressedskeleton.tumblr.com/beforeandafter

    http://skinny-and-curvy.tumblr.com/post/15785439300/healthyhipster-onmywaytohealthy-official-six

… and I was really inspired. These girls are around my age and they’ve done the same thing I started doing two years ago! The one thing that stood out to me were there “before and after” photos they posted.  I was extremely motivated by these and then I had a thought… what is more motivating than seeing someone else progress through their ‘get healthy journey’s?’ Seeing your own progress! So that’s when I decided I would make my own “before and after” photo. I had just planned on posting it in my room as my own sort of “I did this once, I can do it again” sort of thing, but for some reason I decided to post it on my Pinterest. And what do you know it blew up! People I don’t even know were ‘repining’ and ‘liking’ it, and one lady even asked if I had a blog she could follow.

So here I am, starting a blog to track my new journey to get fit. I came up with the name “Toned not Tiny” because I feel like so many girls think they need to be stick thin, which is sometimes unhealthy… Don’t get me wrong, I have very small friends who are some of the healthiest people I know, but I think some girls think that being super tiny is how they have to be.  I’m here to tell you otherwise.  I don’t want to be tiny, In fact I think I would look weird if I only weighed 115 pounds, but that’s just me.  I want to tone up and get fit. I want to be healthy and feel good about myself. Mostly I started it to keep myself accountable, because I know other people will be watching it, so that is sort of motivating for me. But also because of this random persons suggestion… who knows, it might be a hit!
